Susan J. Harkema, PhD is a neuroscientist and internationally recognized leader in spinal cord injury recovery, neuromodulation, and rehabilitation research. As Director of Consortium Growth at Kessler Foundation, she has pioneered groundbreaking studies demonstrating that epidural and non-invasive spinal stimulation can enable recovery of motor, cardiovascular, and autonomic functions after severe spinal cord injury. Her research has transformed the understanding of the spinal cord's capacity for recovery and has helped establish new therapeutic approaches that are changing clinical practice worldwide. Dr. Harkema has authored more than 250 scientific publications and has led numerous multidisciplinary and international collaborations advancing the translation of neuroscience discoveries into improved outcomes for individuals living with neurological disorders.
