Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan

HE Mr., Minister of Education

Minister of Education of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 27 September 2022, and Chairman of the Council of Universities' Affairs and the Council of General Education Affairs. In that capacity he chairs the boards of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, the National Institute for Professional Educational Development, the National eLearning Center, the University Higher Education Fund, King Saud University, Tatweer Education Holding Company and the Supervisory Board of Foreign Schools, and has chaired the Board of the Small and Medium Enterprises Bank since February 2023. He also heads the supervisory committees for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program and for privatisation in the education sector, and sits on the Human Capability Development Program committee, the Supreme Committee for Research, Development and Innovation and the board of the General Authority for Statistics. Before joining the government he spent his career at Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), rising to Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer after serving as Executive Vice President of Finance, Deputy CEO of the Chemicals strategic business unit and Deputy CEO of Human Resources. In 2020 he chaired the B20 business group during Saudi Arabia's G20 presidency. His previous roles include Chairman of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA), Chairman of SABIC Agri-Nutrients and of Nusaned Investment, and board memberships at the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, the General Authority of Foreign Trade, the Saudi Ports Authority, the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) and the International Advisory Board of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, a master's degree in industrial management and an executive certificate from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
