Steven Laureys

Neurology

Professor Steven Laureys is a neurologist and neuroscientist internationally recognized for his work on consciousness, severe brain injury, neuroplasticity, and rehabilitation. He holds the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Neuroplasticity at Université Laval and directs the Joint International Research Unit on Neuroplasticity between Université Laval and the University of Liège. He is also Chairman of the Audacious Disability Innovations Program at the King Salman Center for Disability Research, King Saud University, Riyadh. Founder of the Coma Science Group, he has pioneered the use of advanced neuroimaging, electrophysiology, brain-computer interfaces, and neuromodulation to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and recovery in patients with disorders of consciousness. His broader work explores how robotics, artificial intelligence, meditation, and emerging technologies can enhance rehabilitation, autonomy, and quality of life. He is Editor-in-Chief of Brain Connectivity, a member of several academies, and author of numerous scientific publications and books for the general public around the world today.
