Ehsan Hoque

AI for assistive technology

Ehsan Hoque is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Rochester, where he co-directs the ROC HCI Lab. His research transforms everyday consumer devices—smartphones, webcams, and microphones—into clinically meaningful tools that expand access to care for underserved populations. His technologies include PARK, a remote Parkinson's screening platform validated with over 1,800 participants and published in NEJM AI, and communication systems licensed by Microsoft that have reached more than 500 million users. In Saudi Arabia, he has led the development of AI health platforms spanning autism screening, Arabic speech therapy, mental health support, and neurological assessment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense Health Services. His honors include the U.S. Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), MIT Technology Review's TR35, and election as an AIMBE Fellow and ACM Distinguished Member. He earned his PhD from the MIT Media Lab.
