Carlotte Kiekens

Physical and rehabiltiation medicine

Carlotte Kiekens is a Belgian Physical and Rehabilitation (PRM) physician, working in Italy since 2020, after 30 years at University Hospitals Leuven. She is currently working as a researcher at the Laboratory of Evidence-Based Rehabilitation at the IRCCS Galeazzi-Sant'Ambrogio Hospital, and the Italian Scientific Spine Institute (ISICO), both in Milan. Her main fields of interest are rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury and (adult) spina bifida, polytrauma, and amputation, ethics in rehabilitation, sexuality and disability, evidence-based practice, health policy and systems research in rehabilitation and advocacy for rehabilitation and people with disabilities. She is the director of the Cochrane Thematic Group: "Functioning, Disability, and Rehabilitation". She is a European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine member, ISCoS Fellow, EBPRM Life Fellow, ESPRM honorary member, UEMS PRM Section expert, advisor of the ISPRM-WHO Liaison Committee and World Rehabilitation Alliance member. She published over 230 PubMed papers and 22 book chapters (Scopus H-index 35).
