Toni Choueiri

Medical Director, International Strategic Initiatives

Toni Choueiri was born and raised in Beirut and earned his medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine of Saint Joseph University there, then completed an internal medicine residency and a haematology and medical oncology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He joined Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2007, directs its Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology, co-leads the kidney cancer programme at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center and became the Jerome and Nancy Kohlberg Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in 2018. He co-established the International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium criteria used worldwide to stratify risk in advanced kidney cancer, and led or co-led the trials behind the approval of cabozantinib, avelumab with axitinib, cabozantinib with nivolumab, pembrolizumab with lenvatinib, belzutifan and adjuvant pembrolizumab, the last from the KEYNOTE-564 trial reported in 2021. He was president of Dana-Farber's medical staff from 2016 to 2018, the Kidney Cancer Association's Eugene Schonfeld Award in 2016, was inducted into the Giants of Cancer Care in 2021 and elected to the Association of American Physicians.
