Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sonatrach of Algeria. Sonatrach is Algeria’s national oil and gas company, founded in 1963. It is the largest energy company in Africa and one of the most important suppliers of natural gas to Europe, through the Medgaz pipeline to Spain and the Trans-Mediterranean pipeline to Italy, alongside its LNG exports from Arzew and Skikda. He rose through technical and leadership positions inside the group before reaching its presidency. The company’s priorities in this period are raising gas output and offsetting decline at mature fields, widening exploration partnerships with international companies under the new hydrocarbons law, and entering hydrogen and solar projects alongside its refining and petrochemicals operations.
