Minister of Energy

Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia since September 2019 and the first member of the royal family to hold the portfolio. He has spent more than four decades in the petroleum and energy sector, rising through the ministry to serve as Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Petroleum Affairs and then Minister of State for Energy Affairs before his appointment. He represented the Kingdom at OPEC for many years and chaired its ministerial meetings, and was among the architects of the OPEC+ alliance that brought the organisation together with non-member producers to manage supply. In the Kingdom he oversees the National Renewable Energy Program and the Vision 2030 target of generating half the country’s electricity from renewables by 2030, along with the energy efficiency, circular carbon economy and hydrogen portfolios. He studied at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
