World Petroleum Council (WPC Energy)

WPC Energy is a non-advocacy, non-political international organisation founded in 1933 and headquartered in London. It holds charitable status in the United Kingdom and is accredited as a Non-Governmental Organisation by the United Nations, and it comprises sixty National Committees worldwide. Formerly known as the World Petroleum Council, it exists to facilitate open dialogue around energy and its products and to promote their sustainable management for the benefit of all.

The organisation is governed by a Council that convenes once a year. Its global membership elects the President and an Executive Committee every cycle, selects the host country of the next Congress from the candidate countries, and elects a Congress Programme Committee responsible for the technical content.

Its flagship event is the WPC Energy Congress, a global platform for open dialogue on realistic pathways to a net-zero future, convening heads of state, chief executives, engineers, academics and NGOs. At each Congress the organisation presents the WPC Energy Excellence Awards, which recognise outstanding projects and innovations by companies and institutions rather than individuals.

Alongside the Congress, the Young Professionals Committee is open to professionals under the age of 35 and leads the WPC Energy Youth Forum, whose eighth edition was held in Kuwait on 22 and 23 October 2025. National Committees run country-focused and regional workshops, symposia and technical sessions. The organisation also runs a gender and diversity programme that includes the Untapped Reserves survey with BCG, the only recurring gender study in the energy industry, and the Women10x online community.
