President and Chief Executive of the American Petroleum Institute since 2018. The institute is the largest oil and gas trade association in the United States, founded in 1919, with hundreds of member companies across the value chain, and it sets the technical specifications known as API standards that are used in the manufacture of equipment and drill pipe worldwide. An American national, he spent his early career in Congress, where he served as chief of staff to Speaker of the House John Boehner, and then led the American Investment Council, which represents private equity funds. In his current role he leads the institute’s work on energy project permitting legislation, LNG exports and emissions regulation, and is among the most visible voices in the Washington energy policy debate.
