Laila Abdelwareth

Laila Abdel Wareth is a pathologist and laboratory medicine specialist with more than 28 years in practice and healthcare management. She took her medical degree at Ain Shams University, Cairo, and trained in medical biochemistry and clinical pathology at the University of British Columbia, and holds Canadian and American board certification, fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of American Pathologists, and an executive master's in healthcare administration from Zayed University. She is chief executive of the National Reference Laboratory and of diagnostics within M42's global patient care platform, and medical director of the laboratories at Imperial College London Diabetes Centre. She was previously chief medical officer for SEHA's pathology and laboratory services, chair of pathology at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and chair of the pathology institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. She is president of the Emirates Clinical Chemistry Society, adjunct clinical professor of pathology at Khalifa University, and has led laboratories through JCI, CAP and ISO 15189 accreditation.
