Jayasree K. Iyer

Jayasree K. Iyer is an infectious disease scientist who leads the Access to Medicine Foundation, the Netherlands-based non-profit whose Access to Medicine Index ranks the largest pharmaceutical companies on what they do to reach patients in low- and middle-income countries, and which also publishes the Antimicrobial Resistance Benchmark and the Access to Oncology Medicines report. Born and raised in Singapore, she holds an ScM in molecular microbiology and immunology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a PhD on antigenic variation in malaria from Nanyang Technological University. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, scientific development manager at Amcare Labs International and senior programme manager at Top Institute Pharma, and co-founded the European Solutions Enterprise for Neglected Diseases. She joined the foundation as head of research before becoming chief executive, and sets its strategy on reaching the roughly 80 percent of the world's population living in those countries. She writes for Project Syndicate and was named to The Medicine Maker Power List in 2026.
