Khalid Awartani
Consultant in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
Khalid Awartani practises reproductive medicine at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, in a Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology whose sections cover maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynaecologic oncology, and that runs a postgraduate fellowship in reproductive medicine. His published research spans the clinical and genetic sides of infertility. He reported on endometrial thickness at hCG administration and pregnancy outcome in a large retrospective cohort of IVF and embryo transfer cycles, and on infertility treatment outcomes in subgroups of patients with obesity in Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology. A genomics study of women with infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss that he co-authored in Human Genetics described a human knockout phenotype of PADI6 associated with cleavage failure of fertilised eggs. He has also worked on fertility preservation in cancer care, co-authoring a survey of oncologists' practices in Saudi Arabia and a systematic review comparing ovarian tissue cryopreservation with other techniques for chemoradiation-induced premature ovarian insufficiency.
