Karim Badawi

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Arab Republic of Egypt since July 2024. A petroleum engineer and a graduate of the American University in Cairo, he spent nearly three decades at Schlumberger before taking office, moving through technical, operational and leadership roles in Egypt, Europe and the Middle East and ending as the head of the company’s business in Egypt and the East Mediterranean. He took the portfolio at a time when Egypt faced declining output from the Zohr field and a rising LNG import bill, and his stated priorities have centred on accelerating exploration drilling, restoring the confidence of foreign partners by settling their arrears, and linking East Mediterranean fields to the Egyptian liquefaction plants at Idku and Damietta.
