Joseph Hazel
Group Chief Executive Officer
Joseph Hazel has spent more than 30 years in healthcare leadership across Africa, Europe, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. He became group chief executive of Apex Health in February 2023 and has overseen its growth from a single 240-bed private hospital opened in Doha in 2022 into a group of eight hospitals in four countries with more than 2,700 beds, assembled as an integrated portfolio of private providers across the Middle East and North Africa. Before Apex Health he spent seven years at Mediclinic Middle East, latterly as chief operating officer for Abu Dhabi. He holds an MSc in healthcare economics, policy and management from the London School of Economics, an MBA and a diploma in management from the Open University, and has completed executive programmes at Harvard Business School in managing healthcare delivery and strategy execution, director training with the Institute of Directors and leadership training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He sits on the advisory board of the Arab Hospitals Federation, and Forbes Middle East listed him among its top healthcare leaders in 2025.
