Jeffrey Currie
Chief Strategy Officer of Energy Pathways
Chief Strategy Officer for Energy Pathways at the Carlyle Group. An American national with a doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago, before joining Carlyle he spent around twenty-seven years at Goldman Sachs, where he was global head of commodities research, a position from which he became one of the most influential analysts in the debate over oil and metals prices. His name is associated with the commodity supercycle thesis, the argument that years of underinvestment in energy and mining lead to a prolonged period of rising prices, and later with the thesis that the energy transition will structurally raise demand for copper and critical minerals. In his current role he leads Carlyle’s work in financing energy and transition-related infrastructure projects.
