Jaffar Al-Tawfiq

Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases Consultant

Jaffar Al-Tawfiq is a Saudi infectious diseases physician and one of the most cited researchers on coronaviruses. He is consultant in internal medicine and infectious diseases and director of accreditation and infection control at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare in Dhahran, and adjunct associate professor of medicine and infectious diseases at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His work covers hospital epidemiology, healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistance, antibiotic stewardship and emerging respiratory pathogens including MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, alongside public health preparedness for mass gatherings such as Hajj. He has received the annual award of the Saudi Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and a lifetime achievement award in vaccinology at the Saudi International Vaccine Forum.
