Hossam Sadek

Chief Executive Officer

Hossam Sadek was appointed chief executive of Egypt's Universal Health Insurance Authority on 11 May 2026, by decision of an extraordinary board session, succeeding Mai Farid. An engineer by training, he brought more than 23 years in health insurance, the management and operation of health services, digital transformation and institutional development, having worked on development projects across the insurance and healthcare sectors. The authority he leads is the financing and strategic purchasing arm of the universal health insurance system created by Law 2 of 2018, which splits financing, service delivery and quality oversight between separate bodies; the scheme is being introduced in six phases over about a decade, starting with Port Said and the other first-phase governorates of Ismailia, Suez, Luxor, South Sinai and Aswan. Since taking office he has made field visits to branches and hospitals, including in Port Said and at Suez Canal Authority hospitals, and has pushed international partnerships, hosting delegations at Africa Health ExCon and running a technical cooperation programme with Thailand on universal health coverage.
