An American national with a doctorate from Princeton University, she began her career as an analyst at the United States Central Intelligence Agency working on energy and emerging markets, then moved into finance, working at the Council on Foreign Relations, Barclays and Lehman Brothers. Her specialism is what she calls geopolitical risk in commodity markets, reading the effect of sanctions, conflicts and producer decisions on supply.
