Hala Ibrahim Alhodaib directs the new technology and digital health department in the medical devices sector of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the regulator that authorises medical devices for the Saudi market. Her department sets the regulatory approach for digital health products, covering software as a medical device, mobile health applications, digital therapeutics, health information technology, telemedicine, wearable devices, virtual and augmented reality, and artificial intelligence and machine learning, and guides manufacturers and software developers through medical device marketing authorisation. She previously worked as a senior scientific evaluation expert at the authority and held a post at King Saud University, and she holds postgraduate degrees from the University of Exeter and the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
