Bassam Kaddissi

Chairman

Bassam Kaddissi is an architect who has spent more than twenty years designing healthcare facilities and who chairs the Arab Healthcare Sustainability Center, a body of the Arab Hospitals Federation, sitting on the federation's executive council as its advisory member for facility design. Based in Beirut, he has been senior design manager for healthcare architecture at the engineering firm Khatib and Alami since 2018, and his project record spans teaching hospitals, acute care centres, specialty clinics and laboratories, as well as hospitality and airport work across the Middle East and North Africa, applying both North American and regional building standards. He is a member of the Order of Engineers and Architects in Lebanon. Through the federation he is building a design strategy for health facilities in the Arab world around flexibility of layout, green hospital and WELL certification concepts, adaptation to climate change and integrated smart systems, an agenda he traces to the finding that many facilities were not equipped for the pandemic. He spoke on sustainability at the federation's MedHealth forum in Abu Dhabi in 2023.
