Bassam Fattouh

Director of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, one of the oldest independent research centres in energy economics, founded in 1982 and associated with the University of Oxford. Of Lebanese origin, he is a professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London and holds a doctorate in economics. He specialises in oil economics, crude pricing mechanisms, the behaviour of OPEC and the economics of the Gulf states, and has produced dozens of peer reviewed papers in these fields along with a series of reports on OPEC policy, LNG markets and the transition in exporting states. He is among the most cited academics in the debate over forward oil pricing and crude differentials, and his readings are cited in government literature and financial institution reports analysing production decisions.
