Arwa Alameen

DG of Statistics and Information

Arwa Alameen is director general of the general directorate of statistics and health information at the Saudi Ministry of Health, having previously held general manager and consultant posts in statistics and information at the ministry. Her career spans academia and official statistics: she is a member of the department of statistics and operations research in the college of sciences at King Saud University, where she took a bachelor's degree in mathematics with first class honours in 2001, a master's in statistics in experimental design in 2004 and a PhD in statistics specialising in reliability in 2008, and she received the Princess Al-Jawhara award for scientific excellence in Saudi universities in 2005. Between 2016 and 2021 she worked at the General Authority for Statistics as a consultant directing statistical analysis. The directorate she now heads produces the Kingdom's health statistics, including the ministry's statistical yearbook and its reporting against the health-related Sustainable Development Goals and the World Health Organization's hundred core health indicators.
