Researcher
Ahreej Eltayeb, MSc, works on the epidemiology of respiratory infectious disease and is a co-author of the ObservatARI study, an observational cohort study of acute respiratory infection coordinated by the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford. ObservatARI was nested inside the Oxford-Royal College of General Practitioners Research and Surveillance Centre, the English sentinel primary care network that supplies the UK Health Security Agency with data for tracking respiratory outbreaks. From November 2023 to November 2024 the study placed point-of-care testing devices in general practices across England and enrolled adults aged 40 and over who presented within ten days of symptom onset, taking nasopharyngeal swabs so that respiratory syncytial virus, influenza and COVID-19 were confirmed virologically. The protocol was published in JMIR Research Protocols in 2025 and the epidemiological results in the Journal of Infection in 2026, with Oxford investigators including Simon de Lusignan and Uy Hoang. Both papers list her with an affiliation to Moderna, which funded and sponsored the study.
