Ahmed Alkhani

Ahmed Alkhani is a Saudi neurosurgeon at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, where he heads the neurosurgery division at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh. He graduated from the King Saud University medical school in 1991, completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Toronto and stayed there for a clinical fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery; he is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He is an adjunct professor of neurosurgery at Alfaisal University in Riyadh. He is president of the Pan Arab Neurosurgical Society, chairs the stereotactic and functional neurosurgery committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, and is active in the World Society and the Middle Eastern Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. His clinical and research work centres on deep brain stimulation and psychiatric neurosurgery: he was among the authors of a Molecular Psychiatry paper on deep brain stimulation for refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder, and has co-authored work on Saudi psychiatrists' attitudes to neurosurgical intervention.
