Ahmed Alfares

Ahmed Alfares is a Saudi clinical geneticist at the Genomic Medicine Centre of Excellence at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, working with its precision medicine laboratory department as a medical consultant and senior clinical scientist, and he also holds an appointment at Alfaisal University's College of Medicine. He completed medical school in Saudi Arabia, trained in medical genetics at McGill University in Canada, and in 2011 joined Harvard Medical School for two fellowships, in clinical molecular genetics and in clinical biochemical genetics; he is certified in clinical molecular genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. He was previously a faculty member in medical genetics at Qassim University and a consultant medical geneticist with the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, where he worked on establishing high-throughput whole exome and whole genome sequencing and in the biochemical metabolic laboratory. In 2026 he was first author of a paper in Nature Genetics on building genomic medicine in Saudi Arabia.
