Abdulaziz AlRajhi

Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim AlRajhi is a Saudi ophthalmologist and senior consultant in cataract, cornea and refractive surgery, and chief executive of King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh. He completed a joint residency at King Saud University and the hospital in 1996, took his fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery there in 1997, became director of its outpatient clinic and a senior consultant in 2005, moved to Magrabi Hospitals in 2014 and returned as chief executive in 2017. He was co-chair of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness in 2003, organised its seventh general assembly in Dubai in 2004, and between 2006 and 2009 worked on World Health Assembly resolutions on preventing avoidable blindness. He was elected president of the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology in 2007, sat on the board of the International Council of Ophthalmology and served a term as its vice-president, hosted the World Ophthalmology Congress in Abu Dhabi in 2012 and presided over the 2014 congress. As chair of the agency's Eastern Mediterranean region he leads its alliance on trachoma elimination.
