Martha Mwaba

Senior Medical Officer, Ministry of Health Zambia

Martha Mwaba is a Zambian medical doctor and public health practitioner working in the Ministry of Health, with clinical experience in emergency and critical care. She holds a Bachelor of Human Biology, a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Public Health. She has worked on outbreak response, including the cholera epidemic that spread through Lusaka and other districts in 2023 and 2024, and on nutrition programmes for mothers and young children. She sits on the national executive committee of the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia as its member for finance, covering financial transparency, professional development for junior doctors and health policy advocacy. She is a co-author of a 2023 paper in Health Science Reports on addressing neglected tropical diseases in Africa from a gender perspective, and of a 2025 paper in Global Health Research and Policy on widening access to zinc and oral rehydration solution for childhood diarrhoea across Africa. The Zambia Medical Association gave her its Young Doctors Award in 2024, and in 2025 Zambia National Commercial Bank named her a Zee Woman in Medicine.
