Katharina Grimm

FIFA Medical Lead, Federation Internationale de Football Associations

Katharina Grimm is a surgeon with a master's degree in sports medicine who has held leadership roles in elite sport since 2006. As FIFA's Medical Lead, based at the federation's headquarters in Zurich, she directs the planning and delivery of medical services at FIFA tournaments worldwide, including match-day medical provision, the deployment of FIFA match doctors and player safety protocols. She earlier headed the FIFA Medical Office for six years, coordinating medical services at around 30 FIFA World Cup tournaments and initiating research and publications in the field. Between her two spells at FIFA she was Director of Medical Affairs at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, leading a team of physicians, physiotherapists and scientists and organising medical services for world championships in several sports, returning to FIFA in 2021. She sits on the Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee of UEFA and on the board of the Center for Sports Equity at Stanford University, and her work covers athlete cardiac safety and the health and rights of female athletes.
