Hamad bin Ibrahim Al-Badr

Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Technology

Dr Hamad bin Ibrahim Al-Badr is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Technology at Medical Care Colleges in Riyadh, and a researcher and consultant in biomedical engineering, maintenance management, asset management, facility management, decision support systems, quality and higher education. He holds two doctorates: the first in biomedical engineering from Brunel University London in the United Kingdom (2019), with a thesis on designing a decision support system to improve medical device maintenance in Saudi Arabia, and the second in higher education administration from King Saud University (2015), addressing the development of undergraduate engineering education in the Kingdom. He also holds a master's degree in biomedical engineering from California State University, Long Beach in the United States, and a bachelor's degree in physics from King Saud University. He brings more than thirty years of professional and academic experience in biomedical engineering, maintenance management, asset management, strategic planning, quality, education and training, and policy and procedure development. He has held a number of leadership and advisory positions, among them adviser to the Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for industrial human capability development, adviser for development and training at the General Department of Medical Maintenance at the Ministry of Health, supervisor of biomedical engineering at Prince Sultan Military Medical City and at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Riyadh, and supervisor of the establishment and management of the first medical devices technology programme at the Technical College in Riyadh. He currently serves as a faculty member at Medical Care Colleges, teaching biomedical engineering, electronics, microcontrollers, research methods, statistics and mathematics. His research interests focus on asset lifecycle management, facility management, decision support systems, maintenance, performance indicators, digital transformation, big data and artificial intelligence, in addition to strategic planning, quality and the development of engineering education. He has published more than twenty-two peer-reviewed papers in local and international conferences and journals and has spoken and presented research at many specialised conferences inside and outside the Kingdom. Among his most notable research achievements are the design of a decision support system for developing medical device maintenance, the development of a key performance indicator framework for maintenance and biomedical engineering management, and the preparation of a strategy and performance indicators for developing undergraduate engineering education. He holds a number of professional accreditations, including consultant engineer from the Saudi Council of Engineers, certified assessor for the King Abdulaziz Quality Award, certified reviewer at the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, certified trainer at the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, certified consultant at the Ministry of Commerce, and lead auditor in quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. He is a member of several professional and scientific societies, including the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, the Saudi Quality Council, the Saudi Scientific Society of Biomedical Engineering, IEEE, AAMI, ASEE and AHA.
