Bassam Chahine

Chief Executive Officer

Bassam Chahine is Chief Executive Officer of SMC Healthcare and has been with the Saudi hospital group since its founding more than 25 years ago. He became chief executive in 2024 and led the company's listing on the market, and is now steering an expansion that will add three hospitals in Riyadh by 2030 and more than double its bed count to about 1,200. He served as chief executive of operations from 2000 to 2018 and as vice president of operations and medical affairs from 2018 to 2024, and over that period helped turn a 24-bed same-day surgery and diagnostic centre into one of the largest academic for-profit health systems in the capital, developing centres of excellence in cardiology, long-term care, oncology, ophthalmology and bariatric surgery. He holds a master's degree in public health from the American University of Beirut.
