Tony Hayes is Maritime Business Leader for the UKIMEA and Europe region at Arup. Arup is a global British engineering and consulting house owned by its employees through a trust rather than by outside shareholders, a structure that has shaped the kind of projects it takes on. Among its best known works is the Sydney Opera House, and in the marine field it has worked on the design of ports, terminals, sea bridges and coastal protection. His remit covers a region stretching from Britain to India by way of the Gulf, the region where the largest port expansion spending in the world is concentrated today.
