Karim Barakat is Chief Executive Officer of Western Coast Port Services and a member of the advisory committee that shapes the technical agenda of this conference. Saudi Arabia’s west coast is the Kingdom’s Red Sea frontage and its corridor to the Suez Canal, home to Jeddah Islamic Port, the busiest in the Kingdom, and to King Abdullah Port at Rabigh. Port services companies occupy the layer that rarely makes the news yet determines a port’s real efficiency: pilotage, towage, mooring, cargo handling and alongside vessel services, the services by which vessel dwell time and handling cost are measured.
