Ray Dalio

Raymond Dalio was born in New York City in 1949 and bought his first stock at the age of twelve. He graduated from Long Island University, earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and founded Bridgewater Associates from his apartment in 1975; it grew into the largest hedge fund in the world by assets under management. He is known for the management principles of radical transparency and an idea meritocracy, for the Pure Alpha fund and for the risk parity approach he pioneered. He stepped down as chief executive in 2017 and gave up control of the firm in 2022. His best known books are Principles, published in 2017, and Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order, published in 2021. He and his wife Barbara are signatories of the Giving Pledge.
