Patrice Motsepe
Founder and Non-Executive Chairman
Patrice Tlhopane Motsepe was born in Soweto, South Africa in 1962. He read law at the University of Swaziland and the University of the Witwatersrand and became the first black partner at the law firm Bowman Gilfillan. He entered mining in 1994 with a mine services business, then founded African Rainbow Minerals in 1997, listing it on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 2002. In 2008 he became South Africa's first black billionaire according to Forbes. He owns the Mamelodi Sundowns football club and was elected president of the Confederation of African Football in March 2021. With his wife, the physician Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, he founded the Motsepe Foundation, and in 2013 he became the first African to sign the Giving Pledge.
