Jamie Dimon

Chairman and CEO

James Dimon was born in New York City in 1956 to a family of Greek descent in which both his father and grandfather worked as stockbrokers. He graduated from Tufts University and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1982. He began his career alongside Sandy Weill at American Express and Commercial Credit, helping build what became Citigroup before leaving in 1998. He became CEO of Bank One in 2000, and when it merged with JPMorgan Chase in 2004 he took over as chief executive of the combined bank in 2005 and chairman in 2006. He led the bank through the global financial crisis and its acquisitions of Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual in 2008, and of First Republic in 2023. His annual letter to shareholders is among the most widely read documents in global finance.
