David M. Solomon

Chairman and CEO

David Michael Solomon was born in New York City in 1962 and raised in Westchester County, graduating from Hamilton College in 1984. He worked at Irving Trust and then Drexel Burnham Lambert before moving to Bear Stearns, where he led the high-yield bond business. He joined Goldman Sachs as a partner in 1999, headed the leveraged finance and debt capital markets business and from 2006 led the investment banking division. He was named president and chief operating officer in 2017, chief executive in October 2018 and chairman in 2019. He led the bank's renewed focus on asset and wealth management and its retreat from consumer banking, and presided over the firm's first investor day in 2020. He is also known for his work as an electronic dance music DJ under the name DJ D-Sol.
