Nizar Kammourie is Chief Executive Officer of SAWACO Water Group, the Jeddah-based private desalination company that presents itself as the first licensed commercial water producer in Saudi Arabia. He has been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) for Term 22, 2026-2028, taking office on 5 November 2026 at the close of the IDRA World Congress in Riyadh. Under his leadership SAWACO commissioned in 2026 the first membrane capacitive deionisation (MCDI) plant in Saudi Arabia and the GCC, producing high-purity water with conductivity below 1 microsiemens per centimetre. He also writes on the management of desalination brine, including an article on unlocking its potential with SAWACO's CFRO solution instead of discarding it.
