Ahmed Al Shaqsi
Advisor (Secondment)
Ahmed Al Shaqsi serves as an advisor on secondment to the Authority for Public Services Regulation in Oman, the regulator that took its present shape in 2020 when the Sultanate's electricity and water regulator was renamed and given wider powers, including oversight of natural gas transport. The heaviest files in Oman's power sector sit with that Authority: the target of drawing 30 percent of the country's electricity from renewable sources by 2030, the licensing of renewable generation and the lighter route created for small-scale projects, supervision of the electricity spot market that opened at the start of 2022, and the Renewable Energy Law issued in 2023, which guarantees grid access for renewable projects and sets their technical conditions. Advisory work inside such a body weighs what the network can absorb against what investors want to build on it.
