Omar Al Shabrami manages electromechanical design at TAWAL, the telecom tower company within stc Group and the largest tower operator in the region, holding a portfolio of more than 30,000 sites across Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Pakistan. Electromechanical design settles how each of those sites is powered, cooled and protected: rectifiers and battery strings, backup generation, grid connections, earthing, and the equipment shelters that keep radio kit alive through a Saudi summer. Energy is the live question inside that discipline. TAWAL has built sites at NEOM that run entirely on solar power, and has paired batteries with generators at hybrid locations to cut diesel burn. Design is the stage where such choices stop being intentions and become drawings a contractor can build from.
