Jay Famiglietti

Global Futures Professor

Jay Famiglietti is a hydrologist and global futures professor at Arizona State University. His research group uses satellites to track how freshwater availability is changing around the world, and pioneered the methods that detect groundwater depletion from space using the NASA and DLR GRACE missions, work that has shaped water policy from California to India. He is a former senior water scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and a 2026 recipient of the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water. He works on science communication, international water diplomacy and science-based metrics for tracking progress towards water security, and advises national and world leaders on regional and global water issues.
