Adair Gallo is co-founder and chief executive of Terraxy, a startup backed by Saudi Aramco and KAUST that builds soils intended to stay fertile for centuries. Inspired by the Amazonian terra preta soils, Terraxy developed Carbosoil, a technology that turns biochar, a stable and functional form of carbon, into a long-lasting soil amendment proven to work in alkaline desert soils. By locking carbon into the ground while restoring fertility, the company aims to make large-scale greening possible in some of the harshest environments on earth. He holds a doctorate and works at the meeting point of soil science and carbon removal.
