Ioannis Ioannou
Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship
Associate professor of strategy and entrepreneurship at London Business School and one of the most cited scholars on sustainability and competitive advantage. For close to two decades his research has followed a single question: when does sustainability create long-term value, and who prices it. His answers have shaped how companies and investors understand the strategic and financial weight of environmental and social performance. The same question anchors his work beyond the academy: he co-chairs the sustainability advisory panel of Merck KGaA, spent four years advising the chief executive and executive board of DWS Group, and advises companies building the data and artificial intelligence infrastructure of sustainable business. He contributes to the World Economic Forum's expert network and the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment, and has taught more than 1,000 senior leaders and board members through executive programmes. He writes in Harvard Business Review, Project Syndicate and Forbes, where he develops the argument he calls aligned capitalism: redesigning market incentives so that the most sustainable strategies are also the most profitable. He holds a doctorate in business economics from Harvard University and Harvard Business School and graduated magna cum laude from Yale University.
