Dina Habib Powell was born in Cairo in 1973; her Coptic family emigrated to Texas when she was four. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and worked on Capitol Hill before joining the White House, where at thirty-one she served as assistant to the president and director of presidential personnel, and later as assistant secretary of state for educational and cultural affairs. She moved to Goldman Sachs in 2007, where she led the 10,000 Women initiative and the Urban Investment Group and became a partner and member of the firm's management committee. She returned to the White House in 2017 as deputy national security adviser for strategy, then rejoined Goldman Sachs, and in 2024 helped lead the merchant bank BDT & MSD Partners as co-president.
