Dr Aaidh Al-Mubarak is chief executive of the National Center for Family Business in Saudi Arabia, the body responsible for the sustainability and development of family enterprises and for enabling them in governance, generational succession and dispute resolution. He leads the centre’s programmes in family governance and family charters, among them the alternative dispute resolution programme for family enterprises and family endowments, the Women’s Council initiative supporting the role of women in the sustainability of family businesses, and the first family business hackathon, held with Prince Mohammad bin Salman College of Business and Entrepreneurship with 300 students taking part. He delivered the keynote at the family business forum in Abu Dhabi, and frames his public argument around the figures that family enterprises make up about 95 per cent of establishments in the kingdom and employ about 48 per cent of the workforce, while 59 per cent of them have no declared succession plan.
