Seng H. Cheng, PhD, is Senior Vice President and Head of Research and Product Development at Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease. He is responsible for drug discovery, process development and clinical supply, as well as clinical biomarkers and bioanalytical discovery, rare disease diagnostics and bioinformatics, supporting the pipeline from target discovery through post-marketing. He previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of the Rare Disease Research Unit at Pfizer, as Group Vice President of Genetic Diseases Science at Genzyme, and as Global Head of Rare Diseases Research at Sanofi. He earned his BSc and PhD in biochemistry at the University of London and trained as a postdoctoral fellow in tumour biology at the National Institute of Medical Research in the UK. He has contributed to the development of several rare disease medicines, co-authored more than 280 research articles and reviews, and is a named co-inventor on 64 issued US patents.
