Diaa Tohamy Youssef

Professor

Professor of natural products at the Faculty of Pharmacy, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and professor of pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Suez Canal University in Ismailia, Egypt. He earned a B.Pharm.Sci. from Assiut University in 1984 and an M.Sc. in phytochemistry there in 1988, followed by a PhD from the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 1995. He joined Suez Canal University as assistant professor in 1996, reached full professor in 2006, chaired its pharmacognosy department, and established its first marine natural products laboratory. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (1999-2000) and a JSPS Fellow at the University of Tokyo in 2002. His research centres on anticancer and anti-infective drug leads from Red Sea sponges, cyanobacteria and marine-derived microbes. His work has been cited over 5,700 times, with an h-index of 48.
