Fowzan Alkuraya
Chief Medical & Genomics Officer
A Saudi human geneticist serving as Chief Medical and Genomics Officer and board member of Lifera Omics, a subsidiary of Lifera — a biopharmaceutical CDMO wholly owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund — launched in January 2024 to build large-scale multiomics capacity in support of the National Biotechnology Strategy. He is Professor of Human Genetics at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre and at Alfaisal University, and previously chaired Translational Genomics at KFSHRC. Across seventeen years in human genomics he has helped elucidate the physiological and structural roles of hundreds of genes, enabling the diagnosis of many genetic disorders, and has published more than 590 scientific papers. Methodologically, his work pioneered use of the autozygome for high-throughput identification of autosomal recessive disease genes. He holds postgraduate board certification from Harvard, and has received the American Society of Human Genetics' Curt Stern Award as its first non-US recipient, the King Salman Award for Disability Research, and the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
