Patrick Sulem
Co-Managing Director
Patrick Sulem is Co-Managing Director of deCODE genetics, the Iceland-based pioneer of population genomics research, a role he took on following leadership changes at the company after founder and long-time CEO Kari Stefansson stepped back from that position. A medical epidemiologist and statistical geneticist by training, he holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Montpellier and joined deCODE in 2002, where he previously headed clinical sequencing. His research uses population-scale genomic data to identify sequence variants linked to complex diseases, and he has characterised genetic markers associated with conditions including nicotine dependence, obesity and atrial fibrillation, publishing extensively and with high citation impact in the field of human genetics.
