Mariam Al Eissa
Senior Genetic Consultant
A medical genetics consultant who heads the genetics department at Saudi Arabia's Public Health Authority (Weqaya), adjunct associate professor at the College of Medicine, Alfaisal University, and adjunct researcher in the computational sciences department at the Centre for Genomic Medicine, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, and at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital research centre. She holds a bachelor's degree in applied medical sciences from King Saud University, an MSc in medical genetics from the University of Glasgow, and a PhD in the molecular genetics of complex disorders from University College London. She completed an Ibn Khaldun Fellowship at MIT's McGovern Institute for Brain Research and was a visiting investigator at the Broad Institute. Her research covers the genetics and bioinformatics of complex diseases such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and autism, and she has led national initiatives in newborn screening and polygenic risk scores. She won the Princess Nourah Prize for Excellence in Health Sciences in 2024 and founded Generation Health.
